Judo Finger Strap
In judo, your fingers are working before the first throw is even attempted. Gripping the lapel, breaking the opponent's grip, holding the sleeve through a whole exchange: kumikata puts your joints under strain in every randori. That's why so many judoka tape their fingers before training.
Why judoka protect their fingers
- Gripping the judogi: the thick judogi fabric catches the fingers, which bend and twist when the opponent rips their sleeve away.
- Jammed fingers: a finger bent back on a missed grip is one of the most common small injuries on the tatami. Read: what really happens with a jammed finger.
- Repetition: session after session, the same joints take the load. A sensitive finger needs regular support.
The problem with tape
A roll of tape works, but you have to cut it, wrap it, redo it when it comes loose, then throw it away after the session. It leaves sticky residue, and the cost of tape adds up quickly over a season. Compare the alternatives to tape.
Towa: a reusable finger strap built for gripping
Each Towa strap is a single piece: two rings joined by a bridge. Slide it onto the finger, one ring on each side of the joint, and the bridge keeps the joint supported while you grip.
- Fast: on and off in seconds, no scissors needed.
- Custom fit: heat-mold it once so it fits your finger (see the fitting guide).
- Reusable and washable: one set lasts hundreds of sessions.
- No glue: nothing sticks to your skin or your judogi.
Which set for judo?
- 1-hand set: 4 straps for the hand that grips the most, often your lapel hand.
- 2-hands set: 8 straps to protect both hands, sleeve and lapel.

FAQ
Do Towa straps get in the way of gripping?
They support the joint without covering your palm or fingertips, so you keep the feel of the judogi.
How do I clean them?
Wash with soap and water after training, then let them air dry.
